Gael Scoil 2010

In March 2010 the Burlington County Division 1 AOH sponsored a scholarship for two
Children to the Gael Scoil at Notre Dame High School in Trenton to learn about their Irish Heritage.
Here is our "scholars" birds eye veiw.
My First Gael Scoil
I arrived at Notre Dame High School on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 8:15 a.m. I was excited to get started. The first subject I went to was music. I learned that the Irish harp is the symbol of Ireland. I learned that a Boron drum is found all over the world and is used with one stick. I also learned about the tin whistle and the bag pipes. We listened to a father and his son play all the Irish instruments.
The next class I went to was gym. I learned how to play Gael football. I really liked Gael football but throwing was hard to do. The next class was language. In language we learned our Irish names, did games, songs in Gaelic and we went over the names of animals in Gaelic. After language was lunch. We had pizza and cookies, yum!
After lunch was history. History was held in an auditorium, very cool. I learned about the women of Ireland. I got to watch a movie all about Ireland. I had so much fun on Saturday, I couldn’t wait for Sunday!
On Sunday, the day started with history. I learned about St. Brigid of Ireland and the cross of St. Brigid. The next class was language. We read some books and played BINGO! Bag pipers were next and boy were they loud but I really liked the music. They taught us about the proper way to wear the uniform of a bag piper. Next was a lady singing Irish songs and playing a guitar. I was taught an Irish song and the hand motions that went with it. Then it was time for lunch again, pizza is always good! After lunch, it was time to bake Irish soda bread. Then we all went outside to play Gael football.
My favorite class was music and I had a great time at Gael Scoil. I hope that I can go back next year. Thank you so much for sponsoring me for the Gael Scoil.
