Burlington County AOH Division 1 is looking for new members, if you are a Catholic man of Irish descent and want to celebrate your Irish heritage by marching in local parades and attending Irish festivals, while helping those less fortunate, join us at our next meeting or contact Dewey Raylman for more information.

This division was organized in July 2003, by a small group of dedicated men of Irish heritage and belief in the Roman Catholic faith, lead by Hugh Connelly as the first president . A rebirth of Hibernianism in Burlington County was put forth with a strong determination to succeed.

It was decided soon afterwards that a patron namesake be selected to make this division stand out from the common patron selections of others.  The most obvious choice was to recognize an Irish-American who was born in New Jersey, Major Thomas B. McGuire Jr. (1920-1945) of Ridgewood.

Major "Tommy McGuire" became a pilot during World War II, in the US Army Air Force attaining the rank of Major before the age of 26. This was due in part because of his skill in flying the P38 aircraft "Lightning" , and also to his courage to lead in battle over the skies in the Pacific Theater of war.

During his brief career , Major McGuire became an "ACE" by destroying a total of 38 enemy aircraft . This hallmark was to become the basis for his award of the nation's highest tribute to a combat hero , the MEDAL OF HONOR .

Our division proudly carries his name upon the banners we hold in marching.
